Best Quality and Holistic Pre-School Education Award 2021 – NTUC First Campus’ My First Skool
Every parent recognises that choosing the right childcare for their children is important as it sets the foundation for their future growth and development. With a plethora of choices that parents are faced with, it might not be easy to decide on the right childcare centre. In this piece, we highlight the unique pedagogy in which NTUC First Campus’ My First Skool approaches its curriculum – ensuring holistic development of their children under their care.
My First Skool believes in raising happy children who exude a positive ‘I Can Do It!’ attitude and they believe the best way to do so is by developing positive traits which will inspire the holistic growth and development of their children.
These are the 3 key beliefs that guide its quality and holistic curriculum:
1. Joy in Learning Matters
My First Skool believes that when children enjoy learning, they develop a natural love for learning. The school instils a genuine joy for learning in them through fun and practical hands-on activities such as role-playing in dramatic learning corners with different real-life scenarios, cool science experiments, outdoor play and specialised curriculum highlights. All these encourage their children to be more enthusiastic as they enjoy the learning process – making them better learners. These positive experiences go a long way in cultivating a lifelong learning and growth mindset.
2. Trying Again & Again Matters
The teachers at My First Skool are trained in the relationships-based approach and are dedicated to developing positive, nurturing relationships with children. They inculcate an ‘I Can Do It!’ attitude in children, by providing children with a safe space to fail and encouraging them to try different ways to overcome the small challenges which they face. By providing such an environment, their children become resilient and will not give up easily.
3. Love for Language Matters
My First Skool believes that language is an essential aspect of every child’s development and that it is fundamental to a child’s ability to communicate and express themselves. Through engaging activities such as songs, puppet play and cultural festivities, their children develop a genuine love for culture and languages.
Well-rounded development to lay a good foundation
My First Skool believes in developing the children’s competencies across 6 learning domains. Aside from academic domains such as Language & Literacy and Numeracy, My First Skool also places emphasis on non-academic domains such as Discovery of the World, Motor Skills Development, Aesthetics & Creative Expression and Social & Emotional Development.
My First Skool has many community partnerships to extend the children’s learning. For instance, visits to elderly care centres for intergenerational programmes are part of character development initiatives where interactions with the elderly, inculcates values of empathy, compassion and respect.
How does My First Skool provide quality and holistic curriculum? Let’s take a quick look at what they offer.
Safe and Conducive Learning Environment
My First Skool places emphasis on providing a conducive learning environment to help maximise each child’s learning. Learning corners at every centre are specially constructed to be highly engaging where children are guided to roleplay and recreate everyday situations – i.e. a supermarket setup will allow their children to mimic making purchases, count coins and sort groceries. Centres also have commercial UV-sterilisers at every centre to create a hygienic and safe learning environment across over 145 centres islandwide.
Chef-Planned Meals
Nutritious meals are necessary to boost health and brain development – which is why hearty and nutritious meals are planned and prepared fresh daily by in-house cooks. Parents can rest assured that My First Skool‘s menus meet guidelines set by the Health Promotion Board’s “Healthy Meals in Pre-Schools Programme” and provide children with a balanced diet to meet their growing and development needs.
Committed & Passionate Teachers
A good school cannot do without passionate and dedicated teachers. Many of the teachers from My First Skool have won numerous accolades such as ECDA Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Development, MOE Awards for Outstanding Pre-School Chinese Teacher (Outstanding Award) & Pre-school Chinese Learning Language Storytelling Aids Competition just to name a few. As parents entrust their children to teachers, it puts our minds at ease to have nurturing and dedicated teachers guide our little ones.
My First Skool has been a leader in early childhood care and education for more than 40 years. They are a well-recognised pioneer and a thought and practice leader in the early childhood education industry.
With them meeting all the criteria which parents usually look for in a pre-school, it’s no surprise that it is the #1 Sought-After Pre-school in Singapore where 9 out of 10 parents are happy with My First Skool!
