Early childhood is a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle. I believe children requires learning opportunities that help them achieve their full potential as engaged learners. It teaches children to be aware about individual responsibilities and develop appreciation for differences and similarities.
With more than 15 years of experience in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, I was given ample opportunities to widen my scope of learning. In 2015 specifically, being the finalist for ECDA Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher motivates me to give more to the Early Childhood Education sector.
In My First Skool, children get to experience the joy of learning through purposeful play and develop critical thinking skills, and the essential habits that support lifelong learning. I believe teachers who are the community’s role model contribute to children’s active learning. As a centre leader, it is vital for me to guide, empower and cultivate the habit of professional sharing amongst teachers. This allows us to improve progressively to provide quality education and care for the children.
Collaborative partnerships with families and community vendors promote effective outcomes in children. In our centre today, other than partnering with Health Promotion Board, National Library Board and NTUC Health Senior Day Care (Marsiling), we also work with NParks closely to participate in Community in Bloom programme. This programme helps us in creating a meaningful garden to promote children’s love for nature and widen up their knowledge about plants.
