My work life revolves around children. I have been working with children for more than 20 years now. What has been most rewarding in my years spent with children and teenagers is to make achievements in teaching young children with needs to read, using the theories of Maria Montessori when their parents themselves lose confidence in them. With teenagers, my cherished moments are to be remembered and recognised as a valued teacher for the times spent teaching and counselling them.
Moving towards building my interest in child development, I attained my Bachelors in Child & Family Studies from Edith Cowan University. Since then, I have been a centre leader in different preschool settings for 19 years now.
Here I am in My First Skool for the past 5 years as the centre leader at Blk 230 Compassvale Walk, which has the capacity of 117 childcare children and 16 infants. My young and vibrant teachers who look up to me for guidance, who respect me for who I am and who share both good and difficult times with me, standing by me all my years here, coupled with the funny moments, antics and hugs of all my children, keep me going as a leader.
The centre has achieved its SPARK certification and attained the Healthy Meals in Preschool Programme under the Health Promotion Board. Being in the centre, together with my staff we have organised and retained partnerships with communities that are beneficial to the children’s growth and development. Currently, we work closely with the pioneer generation from the nearby Residents Club and we visit North Spring Primary School yearly to familiarise children with the primary school setting.
