I come from a family of educators who had inspired me to become an Early Childhood Educator and I am happy to have chosen this sector as my calling for the past 19 years. I started out from humble beginnings of being an Assistant Teacher and working my way up to being a Centre Leader. I was appointed as the Principal of My First Skool at Blk 183, Edgefield Plains since it first commenced operations in 2011.
I am proud to see how we have extended our outreach with an increase in enrolment capacity in tandem with raising the bar of quality practices. As a result, we attained the Bronze Award for Innovation in 2012, and SPARK accreditation. We also subscribe to the vision of being a thought and practice leader. To this end, we had adopted the Mimamoru Approach of ‘Wait and Watch’ with practices that allow children to have self-help skills, promote their independence and regulate their emotions.
I believe that it is our responsibility to help children learn through play and allow them to develop at their own pace. It is crucial to recognise that early childhood is a period to be celebrated with each child as it will only come once in a lifetime. With this guiding principle, my team of Educators and I are fully committed to constantly research and re-evaluate our approaches so that we are able to plan meaningful and fun activities to cater to the different learning styles of our children.
