My journey as a childcare educator begins right after completing my Diploma 13 years ago. Thereafter, I pursued a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education to further hone my skills. The experiences I have gained in My First Skool were built up from being an English Teacher to Mentor Teacher and now a Principal.
My centre serves up to 82 children aged 2 years to 6 years old. In 2018, we were awarded with SPARK certification. My English Lead, Teacher Nita was the award recipient for ECDA Promising Teacher in 2018. Leading a centre is a whole new level of excitement as it strengthens my skills in planning, implementing, reviewing, overseeing the entire centre’s development, and building a new community.
Believing that parents are key partners in enhancing children’s learning, my team started a Parent Support Group to provide opportunities in co-planning activities for children. Partnering closely with parents allows me to align my centre’s vision and mission, thus fostering stronger relationships and achieving better outcomes.
We have a responsibility to ensure that children not only flourish but are well-equipped for their next chapter in life. As the saying goes, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”, which reminds us to consider the future. And our children are the future. To do this, we must create a purposeful environment one that provides endless opportunities for growth. As we gain experiences in working with different stakeholders, it certainly enables us to attain this goal.
