After graduating from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, I joined the industry as a novice teacher in a kindergarten. In 2011, I had the opportunity to join the Grow with Us Program in NTUC First Campus where they groom teachers to be future leaders. In 2012, I set up a new centre in My First Skool and also attained my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College (SEED Institute).
As an early childhood practitioner, I strongly believe in bringing out the potential in every child and that every child is unique and different in their own ways. Thus, focusing on differentiated learning and development for the children and intentional planning for teacher’s professional development are important. As a leader, I believe that trust and respect is key to building relationships with staff and parents. Therefore, I always encourage open communication and to create an environment of support, encouragement and care.
Our centre is one of the My First Skool centres that embarked on Playmaker Technology and we incorporate the use of technology in the teaching and learning across the centre, besides many other initiatives. We also infused cultural elements into the classroom environment (e.g. Our Little Nonya Red Riding Hood). We are also proud to have attained SPARK Certification with Commendation in year 2017. This is a recognition to the centre’s commitment to providing strong pedagogies to support children’s holistic development in a quality environment for learning.
